A – Assess Your Roofing

Make sure the storm has completely passed, and the sky is clear before taking a look at your roof. Be careful as you navigate your property; look out for debris, unstable roof surfaces and downed power lines. Only perform an inspection from the ground with the use of binoculars. It would be helpful to have a few details that you can tell your roofers when you call them. Do not attempt to climb onto your roof. Leave this job to the professionals.

B – Begin Temporary Fixes

You can perform some temporary fixes as you wait for roof repair contractors to reach your home. For example, you can place buckets under leaks and move any valuable items away from the leaks. If you have furniture that you can’t move by yourself, you can place plastic or trash bags over them to serve as protection.

C – Call Your Insurance Company and Roofing Contractor

In cases of severe roof damage, you must call your insurance company right away, especially if there has been a widespread storm damage in your area. However, take note that in emergency cases, it would make more sense to get in touch with your roofer first instead. Just make sure to document the roof damage and repairs done. You may need photos as well as other supporting documents when filing a claim.
